Afro Nation Detroit, a celebration of music and culture, brings the biggest names in Afrobeats and Global Black music to the heart of the Motor City on August 19th-20th at Brewster-Douglass. This vibrant festival showcases powerful artists alongside engaging community events leading up to the weekend-long celebration.

  • Pre-Festival Celebrations

Kick off the festivities with the Jerk and Jollof Welcome Party on Friday, August 18th at Monroe Street Midway. Enjoy food, drink, dancing, and music from DJs Walshy Fire, Blakito, and more from 4 to 10 pm.

Afro Nation brings business and community leaders together for a series of Homecoming Conversations on Friday, August 18th. These dialogues will cover topics like musical innovation and entrepreneurship at One Campus Martius, 12 pm – 4 pm.

Experience a night of laughter at The Laughing Leopard stand-up comedy show on Friday, August 18th. It’s going to be a fun evening hosted by Nigerian comedian Kenny Blaq and featuring comedic talents like Josh Adams, Comedian CP, Comic J. Will, and Mic Larry at One Campus Martius, 7 – 11 pm.

  • Afro Nation Detroit 2023 Festival Highlights

Afro Nation Detroit is the second Afro Nation event in the United States, and it promises to deliver an unforgettable experience with headliners Burna Boy and Davido. The genre-spanning lineup includes R&B singer Ari Lennox, Nigerian duo P-Square, ATL rapper Latto, “Players” hitmaker Coi Leray, genre-bending musician Masego, and more.

The festival also pays homage to Detroit’s musical heritage by featuring additional activations and events. Moreover, the Brewster-Douglass site, a historically significant housing project, was the first federally funded housing project for African Americans in the United States and home to icons like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson.

  • Connecting Culture and Music Worldwide

Following the success of Afro Nation Miami in May 2023, Afro Nation festivals aim to provide a global platform for African music and its diaspora. Collaborating with BBC Radio 1xtra, the Official Charts Company, and Billboard, it presents the UK Afrobeats Chart Show and the first-ever U.S. Afrobeats Chart.
