Thrift stores not only offer you great prices or make your wallet smile, but shops that also offer pre-loved items are a great way of owning quality clothes and helping the environment by giving pieces a new life inside your wardrobe.

Thrift shops around Detroit

Good clothes don’t have to be brand new and expensive. Don’t just take our word; even Model, Photographer and overall-stylish Larrissa Spears from our September 2022 class of Stylemakers love to shop at thrift stores. ā€œI absolutely love to shop. I am a huge thrifter, [and] 90 percent of my wardrobe is thrifted,ā€ she reveals. Thrift stores not only offer you great prices or make your wallet smile, but shops that also offer pre-loved items are a great way of owning quality clothes and helping the environment by giving pieces a new life inside your wardrobe.

1. Public Thrift

Margo Dalal opened this second-hand shop as means of helping buyers live a low-waste, environmentally conscious lifestyle by offering them a chance to give items a new life in their wardrobes. At Public Thrift, you will find quality pieces in a store that feels more like a boutique than a thrift. They have a selection of pre-loved clothes, fashion accessories and even home items in excellent condition.

2. Fyre Vintage

Buying Vintage clothes is a more eco-friendly option than buying new pieces. By buying at the Black-owned Fyre Vintage, you are not only contributing to the environment but you’re also making an even bigger difference since 10 percent of the company’s profits are used to sourcing sustainable apparel and care packages for women in need in Detroit.

3. Thrift on the Avenue

Thirft on the Ave is a fully online thrift store owned by the couple Christopher and Tanisha Prater. The store sells enviable apparel, purses, footwear, and vintage jewelry. While browsing, we saw a Ralph Lauren blazer for just $22! We’re sure it won’t take long before that gets sold.

4. Salvation Army Thrift Stores

This chain of thrift stores is one of the shops where our BLAC Stylemaker Larrissa Spears gets some of her stylish pieces. Salvation Army features a selection of items donated to the charity where proceeds from the sale directly fund their anti-human-trafficking efforts, drug rehabilitation and elderly services.

5. Detroit Closet

Detroit Closet provides the best selection of designer shoes, purses, and clothes for men, women, and children in the city. Versace, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, MCM, Supreme, Yeezy, Air Jordans, and many other designers are among our favorites. If you’re also looking to sell your designer items, they promise to immediately pay cash for your branded goods!
