‘Dare to be Yer’self’ is a motivational and inspirational lifestyle brand that really challenges champions to live and be your true authentic selves. We turned three years old this month but when I launched the company in 2019, I didn’t know what I was doing. From April to August of that year, we produced over 800 shirts,” remembers Founder and CEO Tyrik Davis. “Next thing you know, an investor comes on board and we’re in Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms with partnerships with the NBA Detroit Pistons. We’ve just exploded and only touching the surface of greatness”

Dare to be Yer’self was founded and created by Ty Davis in 2019. Since then the Detroit clothing brand has partnered with such worthy organizations as Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University’s Michael Ilitch School of Business to speak on how entrepreneurship and confidence became his calling card. As part of this mission, each month, the company rolls out a new theme, focusing on a more nuanced concept to celebrate.

“It’s way more than a tee shirt brand, it’s a lifestyle cause every month we come Up with a new motto. I just got off the phone with the American Cancer Society conceptualizing “Dare to be the Cure.” After October, our theme is “Dare to be Thankful.”

“The first step is accepting you and loving you because you can’t accept yourself until you truly love yourself. Period. People know that when they catch me they’re gonna catch a good bag and some fire shoes. I love to push the envelope. I am accepting of my body, no I’m not a size 32 waist, I have thighs, a stomach and a butt and I embrace it because there’s no one out there like me and let me tell you, my confidence is everything.”

The recent college graduate who assumed he’d work in the legal field or the automotive industry took a leap of faith in starting a business off a tee-shirt concept called “Dare to be Yer’self.”

I have to remind myself that Ty, ‘you’re a badass. Ty, you can do it. Ty, when they say ‘No!’, the man upstairs and who you pray to says yes, and that’s on period.”
