Wear White After Labor Day: Here’s How

Of course you can wear white after Labor Day, and it makes perfect sense to do so in climates where September's temperatures are hardly fall-like; some days can be scorchers, others breezy.

When it comes to personal style in 2022, the mentality is “anything goes.” It’s largely governed by internal validation as opposed to external approval, giving rise to more informal, comfortable, and creative combinations that we see on the streets of Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta. And so, heeding to old-school fashion “don’ts”, like abstaining from wearing white after Labor Day, are outdated and irrelevant. Of course, you can wear white after Labor Day, and it makes perfect sense to do so in climates where September’s temperatures are hardly fall-like; some days can be scorchers, others breezy. It’s more about fabric choice today than color. Even in the dead of winter in Michigan and Illinois, the fashionable wear of white wools, coats, boots, and down-filled parkas are classic symbols of wealth and prosperity.

1. Classic White Button-Up

You can never go wrong with a crisp button-up paired with some casual slacks or jeans. Button-ups aren’t just for pantsuits in the boardroom anymore, they’re perfect for dinner with friends or a parent-teacher meeting at your kid’s school.

See how Kimberly Dobine of Posh and Popular, paired hers with lime green colored slacks and Gucci sneakers.

2. White Pants

If you’re a little on the adventurous side, a pair of white pants (or jeans) are golden. You can easily pair your trousers with colors such as browns, burgundies and dark oranges or even greens to help transition white into a new season.

Take a look at The Dress Up, a pair of slacks coupled with a black blazer and blue button-up. This look can easily go from the workplace to happy hour with coworkers.

3. White Coat

There’s nothing like flexing in a new fresh white overcoat and snow white sneakers to start a fall day. Here is our favorite fashionable bit KarenBritChick wore a classic overcoat with a beanie hat and her sneakers here in her Instagram shot.

4. White Boots

Boots and booties go hand in hand with fall! After the white sandals and toes trends of this summer, white boots are making their way to many closets and claiming their spot in many stylists’ hearts. You can pair it with denim jeans or a dress, and much like the blazer, you can dress it up or down. Purchase these Kelsie Boots by designer Tori Soudan.

5. White Beanie

You can’t go wrong with a white beanie. It just screams purity from your head to your toe. Here. Comedian Mike Bonner coupled his beanie with a pure white beard for a clean, grown-man look.
