Films Featuring Detroit Youth To Screen Saturday

free screening of short films created by and featuring Detroit youth will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Truth Book Store in Northland Mall, located at 21500 Northwestern Highway in Southfield.

The two shorts, both modeled after super hero themes, were filmed locally in Detroit and Southfield.

“The Re-Programmers” is about a group of kids that invents a device to re-program thugs and “The Supa Kidz” is about a group of kids who unite to rid their hood of bad elements with the help of local basketball star Aerial Powers.

The first 50 people to attend the screening will get free DVD copies of the films.

After the screenings, there will be a free workshop on the film industry, featuring filmmaker Tim Greene, several Detroit actors working in Hollywood and singer Beth Griffith, who served the stand-in for Whitney Houston in the upcoming movie “Sparkle.”
