How to Dress to Impress at Dinner in Detroit

ho says looking fabulous for a dinner date means breaking the bank? It certainly doesn't have to be that way. Options?

"Try thrifting," says TaNisha Prater, co-owner of Thrift on the Avenue.

She and her husband, Christopher Prater, have put a lot of time into curating their savvy secondhand shop and are happy to be a part of the resurgence of Detroit. They have been in business for about two years, expanding from a pop-up shop to a permanent location in just four months.

They proudly watch as their business and others around them evolve.

"Yes, we have clothing for practically every occasion," Prater says, "but women and men both will find lots of outfits here that work perfectly for that special dinner date-from casual dressy to business to sexy, flirty and sophisticated."

Thrift on the Avenue is located in Midtown and is far from your typical retail resale shop, with selections in women's and men's clothing, as well as shoes and accessories. Plus, while finding very stylish apparel, shoppers will delight in the hunt for the perfect bargain. The merchandise comes from donations, local shops and even other fashionable areas beyond Michigan.

The store doesn't sell just anything, though. Close attention to the details is essential, yet labels are secondary. The Praters just know style, offering affordable price points for the entire inventory.

Thrift on the Avenue also has continued partnerships with Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS) and Dress For Success Michigan by having portions of proceeds from sales and donations support these nonprofit organizations and their missions.
