So, you’re a recently divorced Black man and you feel ready to find love again. The truth is, healing takes longer for men after a divorce than it does for women. While women are ready and eager to seek counseling, therapy, or support from their circles, men don’t do it willingly.

Men do not experience divorce the same way that women do, so it’s important to ensure that you are healed and ready to move on before you embark on your search for love. The good news is, you can find love as a recently divorced Black man

Here are some tips to consider as you navigate the dating world:

  • Take Your Time

Don’t be in a rush to find a partner. Be patient with yourself especially if you haven’t yet moved past your previous relationship. Now is the time to envision your ideal relationship and figure out exactly what you’re looking for in a partner. It’s also a good time to take stock of your past relationship and figure out where things went wrong. Write down a list of situations where you think you could have done better, then work on your shortcomings. If it’s anger, learn how to be more patient because you will need it if you’re going to make it work with a new partner.

  • Let go of Your Ego

Yeah, so holding on to your ego isn’t going to work in the modern dating world. Women want to date men that are attentive and sensitive to their needs, so you have to learn how to listen more rather than try to get things done your way. We’re not saying that your needs don’t matter, we’re just saying that you should be careful not to intentionally hurt someone’s feelings, and that it would be easier for you to connect with someone if they thought you were making an effort.

  • Get to Know Your Partner

It’s very easy to start a relationship based on physical attraction or infatuation. The first few dates can be confusing and you might think that you’ve found someone you can be with only to realize after the novelty has worn off that you made a huge mistake. Base your initial interest on friendship then get to know a potential partner’s personality. This way, you grow the love organically rather than rushing into a physical relationship and then expect it to grow into something deeper.

  • Date With Purpose

Unfortunately, Black men sometimes get a bad rap when it comes to dating. It’s not unheard of for Black men to date a woman for more than 10 years without getting married. It would help if you were very clear about your intent to date. Are you simply dating casually, or do you want to build a long-term relationship that will lead to marriage? Getting this out of the way will help you stay focused on what your goal is and alert potential partner’s to what you’re looking for.

Finding love as a recently divorced black man is something you can do. However, it’s important that you keep an open mind and ensure that you’re ready to embrace new experiences. You can do it!
