Web Series Debuts Video about Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program

etroit, once again, serves as the backdrop for a mini documentary, this time for Mic.com. As part of their original series, The Movement, host Darnell Moore takes an in-depth look into the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program and its founder and program director Khali Sweeney. The summer and after-school boxing program's mission is to develop good citizenship in urban youth through academic support, a demanding boxing program and a connection to the community through service.

The video, which is just over 8 minutes long, unsurprisingly touched on Detroit's current economic status, white flight and the bankruptcy, but it also included personal stories from some of the gym's youth participants. The program currently works with 65 kids, and the film reported that there are about 500 kids on the program's waiting list.
