Based on “On Her Own Ground” the biography written by Madam Walker’s great-great granddaughter A’lelia Bundles, the piece is also narrated by A’lelia and features music important to Ms. Walker’s journey from an orphan in the deep south to a hardworking washerwoman in St. Louis to a self-made millionaire, philanthropist, and activist.
