Free Skating This Weekend at the Monroe Street Midway

Other family-friendly activities include skating, face painting, board games, basketball and much more.

Want to do something a little bit more active this Labor Day weekend? Go to the Monroe Street Midway and take advantage of free-access roller skate rink. On a first-come, first-served basis, guests may skate for free this coming weekend (from Friday to Monday).

Made possible by the Black-led real estate company, Bedrock, and their partners — Labor day festivities will also include airbrushing, face painting, family games, balloon art, live DJ sets and jazz music streamed from the Detroit Jazz Fest at the venue. Free giveaways including corn dogs and elephant ears will also be given out on Sunday noon and will be available until supplies last.

As an added bonus, there is also free parking available for those coming to skate! You can park at one of the participating garages and you’ll have free four hours of validated parking. You can check out the list of garages on this website.

Here are the roller rink’s hours for Labor Day weekend:

  • Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If roller skating is not your style, there is also a miniature golf course nearby with nine courses. Use of the facilities are also free and on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s a perfect bonding activity for everyone in the family.

On regular days, RollerCade — the company behind the open-air roller rink on Monroe Street and the business behind the oldest Black-owned roller rink located on Schaefer Highway— charges $13 per person. So don’t miss out on this chance to bring the whole family out for a fun weekend!
