We catch up with with DBRW to talk inspiration, what’s next, and upcoming close out to summer with a whole lot of black-owned restaurants. Listen to full podcast below

Detroit Black Restaurant Week is back on schedule, August 20 – 29, 2021. With over 50 restaurants and food trucks joining the growing event, the summer wraps up with the best thing since Comerica’s Taste Fest.  It’s been a long time since Detroiters had the opportunity to gather annually for something distinctly Detroit. Back in the day, the Taste Fest was a celebration of the unique cuisine that made this town so flavorful. And with Detroit Black Restaurant Week, the partners at MLN8 (Melanate), Kwaku Osei-Bonsu, and Dr. Lloyd M. Talley say Detroit’s soulful restauranteurs and their hustle are vital to this event’s continued run.

Menu offerings range from Afro-Caribbean to Mexican cuisine. Fine dining and street food. Detroit Black Restaurant Week has grown from a few restaurants to an event that spans Detroit’s 142.9 mi², east to west, and incorporates ten suburbs. The businessmen behind the event also own EastEats on Detroit’s east side. EastEats serves as a hub for guest chef pop-ins, three food truck parks, and entertainment.

Added to DBRW’s  list of great food offerings are fantastic events meant to engage and uplift. Starting  with Grape Jam,  enjoy your favorite wine, house music, and vibes at Detroit’s best outdoor venue! Every Friday! SneakerBingo, sponsored by EastEats, Burn Rubber, GhettoKids, and SpiceRack!, has guests playing bingo to win rare and collectible kicks. Morning Meditations led by Erin Julianna on Sundays 9:00 AM – 10:15 AM alternate with Gong Therapy sessions at 8:00 AM and 9:30 with Meg Watt uplift and help clear the mental cobwebs for the week ahead.

As COVID cases surge, DBRW participants offer dining options from curbside to dining-in. Restaurant menus are online per CDC guidelines with contactless service reservations. For more, visit www.mln8.co and brand partner Pepsi’s Full of Soul site https://fullofdetroitsoul.com/dbrw.
