Southwest Detroit Restaurant Week Is Here Until October 9

Returning for its third year after a two-year hiatus, the Southwest Detroit Restaurant Week will feature 21 participating eateries that will promote the neighborhood’s distinct culture. The festivities starts Sept. 29, and continue up to Sunday, Oct. 9 in Southwest Detroit.

Southwest Detroit is an ethnically varied neighborhood, with eateries providing Mexican, Honduran, and Venezuelan cuisine. Each of the participating restaurants participating in the occasion will serve an exclusive and limited-edition “legacy dish,” for one week only, that recognizes the owners’ and chefs’ Latin backgrounds. So this event is an opportunity to try out cooking you may not be able to find or try again, at least for a while.

A new feature of this year’s event, the food truck rally at Detroit’s Batch Brewing Company on Monday, Oct. 3 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. will feature 12 different food trucks from the participating eateries. It will be a chance to sample the signature dishes of as many restaurants of the festivities as possible in one trip.

Some of the dishes noted by the Detroit Metro Times to look out for are La Jalisciense’s shrimp cooked in lemon sauce with red onion and cucumbers, El Rey de las Arepas’s chicken and waffles, and Asty Time’s creole meatballs.

Aside from food and refreshments, the Wayne Health Mobile Unit will also be onsite to provide medical services like blood pressure checks, COVID-19 and flu vaccines, and COVID-19 PCR testing.
