Preventative breast care is a key part to staying healthy.

We know that when it comes to staying on top of your breast health, preventative care is a key part to staying healthy. This is the reason why during the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Mammography Day, BLAC has found five places to get and schedule your free and/or low cost mammogram this month.

1. Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital

First on the list is The “Yes Ma’am” program at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, which gives free annual mammograms to women without health insurance in the Downriver area. There are two opportunities per year to get a free mammogram and breast exam; one in May and another in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If you are between the ages of 40 and 64, unemployed, and without health insurance, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital suggests enrolling in the BCCCP to receive a free screening mammography. Other criteria, such as not having a screening mammography health insurance coverage and /or having a physician declare that you require one at the time of your exam, must also be met.

The program’s objective is to provide women in the Downriver region with the knowledge and tools they need to take preventative actions against breast cancer and to spot the early warning signs of the disease. In order to book your appointment, you may contact (888) 242-2702 and to those under the age of 40, you may call (734) 671-1069.

Address: 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192

2. Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Sinai-Grace Hospital Breast Imaging Center

Another medical center that offers low cost Mammograms and accepts a variety of insurance plans, Detroit Medical Center should be on your list. The DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital Breast Imaging Center encourages early detection of breast cancer.

The DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital Breast Imaging Center conducts annual mammograms that can find cancer up to three years before symptoms appear making it easier to treat. And just like any other medical center, criteria such as age guidelines are written on their website to guide you on the average risk and prevention that you can get. In order to schedule your appointment you may contact,  (888) 362-2500

Address: 6001 W Outer Dr., Ste. 206, Detroit, MI 48235

3. Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute

3D Mammography is available at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, where it is performed by specially trained radiologists whose only job is to find cancer.

Starting at age 40, Karmanos suggests that all average-risk women get a mammogram every year for screening purposes. If a woman has one or more risk factors, she should discuss receiving mammograms with her primary care physician or a Karmanos expert. Dial (800) 527-6266 to schedule a consultation.

4. Planned Parenthood

Another clinical center that offers Mammogram in Detroit is the Women’s Health Care at Planned Parenthood in Detroit. Among the following women health services that they offer are breast exams and mammogram referrals.

Referral mammography candidates must have had a breast exam within the previous three months (s). The Detroit Health Center works with many insurance providers, and if you do not have health insurance, you may still be able to get help paying for women’s services. 5. Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program

From the 4 centers that were mentioned above, the Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program or BC3P is not a medical center nor a hospital but a program that helps low-income women get mammograms and Pap tests for cancer screening and any necessary follow-up care.

As long as you are a 40-64 (for breast cancer screening) woman, a resident of Michigan and within the income guidelines you are eligible for the BC3P. For more information, you may check their website
