Lavender Mobile Spa Introduces a New Line of ‘Organic Body Cosmetics’

From massages and facials to pedicures and waxing, founder and CEO of Lavender Mobile Spa, Tracey Sanders, says her Detroit-based enterprise brings with it "the suite of services that most day spas offer." Except that she invites you to crank up your favorite music, sip on your signature cocktail and laugh as loud as you'd like.

That's because Lavender Mobile Spa touts a full team of licensed and insured massage therapists, cosmetologists and estheticians – skilled and ready to throw your next home spa party. Sanders says, "All we need is hot water." She promises a fun, professional and efficient experience. A typical session lasts about two-and-half hours. "We make sure we have enough staff so that we're not taking up a large portion of your event."

Last month, Lavender Mobile Spa launched a collection of Organic Body Cosmetics infused with soft notes of floral, citrus and aromatic fragrances. The Organic Body Cosmetics feature a whipped body cream, sugar scrub, lavender cuticle oil pen and heel balm small enough to tote around so you can quickly hit those dry, cracked feet.

"We will now use our own line of products when providing spa services to our clients," says Sanders. It's a collaboration with her daughters Sage, who studies journalism at Central Michigan University and maintains the brand's social media platforms, and 12-year-old Shelby, who's set to follow in her mom's entrepreneurial footsteps: The tween makes and sells sparkly slime in her Etsy shop, GitterPopSlimez. Sanders also partners with several hotels around town, places that "did not have an onsite spa but wanted to offer their guests the amenity of in-room service," she says. Lavender's team will make visits to any local hotel – though they ask that the location boast a 4-to-5-star rating.

Years ago, in her pre-mobile spa days, Sanders left a full-time position at a nonprofit and when considering her next move, she says, "I knew I wouldn't do well in a corporate setting with people who didn't look like me and may have authority over me, and I kept thinking: What else can I do?" Well, she knew how to do nails – and eventually, she found herself working in a Southfield salon. It was there that she met a man who asked her to help facilitate a spa party for his wife in honor of her graduate school graduation. Sanders agreed to draft an outline despite having no staff and only knowing nails. That party never happened, but no matter, a potentially lucrative idea was born. Before long, Lavender Mobile Spa had secured its first client.

Corporate service is the third prong of the Lavender Mobile Spa operation. Deloitte, Nissan and Credit Acceptance are amongst the brand's corporate clients, and they provide everything from financial wellness seminars to nutrition and fitness workshops to health fairs. "You have to have empowered employees and employees that feel appreciated to give you the best," Sanders says. Health Alliance Plan of Michigan is also an ongoing client. Senior health promotion and planning coordinator Karine Pawlicki contracts with Lavender Mobile Spa to provide HAP's clients and their employees with some added wellness benefits, like chair massage.

"Massage is a service – in my opinion – most people don't tend to purchase themselves. It's almost seen as a perk by most individuals. So, when it's brought over to the worksite, people really gravitate to it," Pawlicki says. "Many people haven't experienced it either, so it's an opportunity for them to get exposed to this modality" and to learn about the therapeutic benefits, she says. New this month is the launch of a third Lavender Mobile Spa location in the Grand Rapids area. They set up in Dallas two years ago, and Sanders says her hope is to funnel into a new state each year – with that same dedication to convenience and comfort.
