A Lifeline for At-Risk Mothers

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, IncorporatedĀ®, Omega Epsilon Omega Chapter, invites community members to come together in support of the Gianna House Foundation at a Community Baby Shower. The event will take place on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Novi Civic Center located at 45175 West 10 Mile Road.

The Community Baby Shower aims to assist in the restoration and restocking of baby supplies that were damaged by the winter storm on December 26, 2022.

Gianna House Foundation: A Beacon of Hope

Founded in 2009, Gianna House Foundation has provided essential support to hundreds of young, pregnant, at-risk girls and women. The foundation offers a safe haven through Gianna House Pregnancy and Parenting Residence, an extension that provides shelter for young women who are pregnant or have a baby under one year old.

Empowering Mothers Through Enrichment Programs

In addition to shelter, Gianna House Foundation provides a community outreach program to support mothers of infants and young children. The program features classes in parenting, personal growth, spiritual journey, life skills, and enrichment, including crochet, sewing, yoga, and scrapbooking. Participating mothers can earn baby bucks to purchase baby items in the foundation’s baby shop.

Executive Director Joella E. Bush emphasizes that the foundation’s approach is a “hand-up” rather than a “hand-out,” fostering a sense of empowerment and creating a supportive community for mothers to share experiences and questions.
