House Party synopsis

What do you get when two buds decide to throw an epicĀ partyĀ at JeBron James’ house without his permission? It’s ā€œHouseĀ Party,ā€ the outrageous R-rated comedy from New Line Cinema. Stacked with double-take cameos and timeless throwback tracks, the movie follows the crazy night of these would-be club promoters as they try to manage an out-of-control event that you have to see to believe. A night like this doesn’t come around more than once, so be sure to see it in theaters nationwide starting Jan. 13.

The Original House Party

Among the many greatĀ movies that take place in party settings, the definitive crown jewel of the bunch would have to be the aptly titled, originalĀ House Party, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Reginald Hudlin and starring hip-hop duo Kid ’N Play. The 2023 release ofĀ House PartyĀ is an entirely new, modern reinterpretation of the original and not a sequel. However, if we were to count it as part of the franchise, this would be the sixth installment of a series spanning more than three decades.

The Cast

New Line Cinema – which produced the original – has apparently taken the acclaim to heart and made a reimagining of the classic 1990 cult comedy for a new generation that has become one of the most anticipatedĀ 2023 moviesĀ set for release.

The lead duo this time is British actor Tosin Cole fromĀ Doctor WhoĀ andĀ Star Wars: The Force AwakensĀ and Jacob Latimore fromĀ Netflix’sĀ Texas Chainsaw MassacreĀ sequelĀ and Showtime’sĀ The Chi. Co-stars in theĀ House PartyĀ cast include comedian Andrew SantinoĀ of FX’sĀ DaveĀ fame, Allen MaldonadoĀ from theĀ Straight Outta ComptonĀ cast, Shakira Ja’nai Payne from Netflix’sĀ All Day and a Night, Tamera Kissen (who had a recurring role on BET’sĀ Real Husbands of Hollywood), and comedian and actor DC Young Fly. Also, Kid ā€˜N Play are not the only celebrities set to make cameos as the trailer reveals the likes of Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Emmy winner Lena Waithe, and fellowĀ DaveĀ cast member Gata appearing, too.
