In a time when so many businesses are struggling, one Black-owned business is thriving. American Advantage Home Care has just been awarded a Comcast RISE award! This national program — which stands for Representation, Investment, Strength and Empowerment — was created in 2020 to support minority-owned businesses during the pandemic. The program invests in the success of these businesses by providing marketing tools to help advance digital equity.
As a full-service home healthcare agency that provides 24/7 skilled medical and hospice care in mid- to southeast Michigan, American Advantage Home Care is making a difference in the lives of its patients. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team at American Advantage Home Care.
“This is an incredible opportunity to amplify the benefits of home health care, especially for those who wish to age in place in the sanctuary and security of their own home,” Cleamon Moorer Jr., DBA, American Advantage Home Care president, said. “As the pandemic continues to shift the health care delivery system and telehealth options increase, the preference of quality, home-based care continues to grow.”
Since Moorer and his wife, Nicole Willis-Moorer, purchased the seven-year-old agency in 2019, daily patient census has increased 1,000%. Moorer credits the increase to the agency’s patient-centric focus, its multicultural staff, and patients’ desire to receive health care services in the safety of their home during the pandemic.
The duo has also put their stamp on the agency’s geographical service area. It previously served mostly patients in Dearborn. Now, its service territory includes 10 Southeastern Michigan counties — Monroe, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw and eastern Washtenaw and Livingston. Additionally, it has regional administrative offices in Grand Blanc, Detroit and Trenton.
In support of its home healthcare clients, caregivers and family members, the agency sponsors the award-winning podcast, “The Home Health Care Today Show,” created and hosted by Moorer.
American Advantage Home Care provides skilled home health care and hospice services. A multicultural team of experienced professionals provides one-on-one care to patients in whatever setting they call home — private home, assisted living, etc. Services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, skilled nursing, home health aide assistance, medical social work and work injury recovery as well as helping coordinate community and private resources to maximize a patient’s functional independence.
The agency is accredited by The Joint Commission, the gold standard and industry benchmark for quality and safety.
