Ex-Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee sounds off on recent police killings

n a response to police killings of unarmed black men in the last week, former Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee posted a Facebook Live video addressing his views on the subject based on his experiences as a law enforcement officer, and as a black man.

“I’m disappointed in how black police officers are not standing up. There should be a war within law enforcement,” Godbee says in the video. “Don’t be so thirsty to assimilate with them to show them that you’re one of them, that ‘we all bleed blue.’ That’s bull. I was born a black man, I’m going to die a black man.”

Godbee served as police chief from 2010-2012 and currently is host of On Point with Ralph Godbee on 910 AM.

On Tuesday, video surfaced of police officers in Baton Rouge, La., gunning down Alton Sterling, a black man who was detained for selling CDs outside of a store. A day later, Philando Castile was killed by officers in St. Anthony, Minn., during a traffic stop.
