Election Day 2022 is Here. Will Your Voice be Heard?

We posed the question; Why vote when it doesn't count anyway? While there are a lot of reasons why people don’t vote, at BLAC, we believe it’s important to ensure everyone’s voices are heard on election day so here are our Black reasons why we want you to vote, Detroit.

Election Day 2022 is here!

For a lot of us, voting is a civic and community obligation. We show up to the polls on election day, we know exactly who and what we’re voting for, and we leave the polling place with a sense of pride in something as small as an “I Voted” sticker. But for many others; our neighbors, our family members and friends, believe voting is too much of a hassle, gives the government access to your information, or a useless endeavor all together.

We posed the question; Why vote when it doesn’t count anyway? While there are a lot of reasons why people don’t vote, at BLAC, we believe it’s important to ensure everyone’s voices are heard on election day so here are our Black reasons why we want you to vote.

It Matters to Us; Your Vote that is.

Make It Count

Aside from the fact that it’s shaping up to be one of the most important midterm elections, it’s also an opportunity to make your voice heard and possibly make a difference. It’s your vote, your voice; you reached the right age, you pay taxes, you drive on the streets of Detroit so why not offer your input. You’re a part of this community and we believe your voice matters; don’t you?

Make a Possible Impact

Your vote count make an impact, it count tip the scale. By voting you send a strong message to those who believe they can get away with putting themselves first at everyone else’s expense. There is massive strengthen in numbers especially for concerns that matter to our community. Who will know our concerns if we don’t send a message through our vote?

Show Up As Who Are You

Even if you don’t believe it, you have something at stake in this election. Whether it’s road repair, taxes, small business development, climate change, water shortage, healthcare or education or any other issue that’s important to you personally (or as a community, neighborhood or block), there is someone running for office who wants to fight for you. Let them know who you are by voting.

  • Find your polling place or vote center and its hours of operation.
  • Make a plan for Election Day: When and where will you cast your vote, documents you may need to bring, and how will you get there? 
  • You can find your polling (voting) location on the Michigan Voter Information Center website.
  • You do not need a photo ID to vote. If you have it, bring it with you. You will be asked for a photo ID when you go to vote. If you do not have a photo ID or do not have it with you, you can sign a simple form, called an affidavit, and vote.
  • The following kinds of photo IDs are accepted at polling places:
    • You can find your polling (voting) location on the Michigan Voter Information Center website.
    • You do not need a photo ID to vote. If you have it, bring it with you. You will be asked for a photo ID when you go to vote. If you do not have a photo ID or do not have it with you, you can sign a simple form, called an affidavit, and vote. The following kinds of photo IDs are accepted at polling places:
    • Driver’s license or state ID card (Michigan or other) 
    • Passport
    • Military ID with photo
    • Student ID with photo from high school or accredited institution of higher learning 
    • Tribal ID with photo
    • Any other photo ID issued by the state or federal government
    • If you do not have a photo ID, you can use an Affidavit of Voter Not in Possession of Picture Identification. Your polling location should have copies of this affidavit available for you to sign on voting day.
    • The polls are open from 7:00a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. You have the right to vote if you are in line by 8:00 p.m.
