Auction house Sotheby’s estimates that the jersey Michael Jordan wore during his “Last Dance” season may sell for $5 million. This particular jersey is one of the most iconic pieces of sporting history and has now been placed up for auction. It is set to go up for auction on September 6. The auction house is selling the jersey Michael Jordan wore in Game 1 of the 1998 Finals against the Utah Jazz to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his memorable ’97–’98 NBA season. Jordan wore a similar jersey during his final season with the Chicago Bulls. Only two of Jordan’s game-worn NBA Finals jerseys have been offered up for sale, and both are similar to this one. “Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the ’97-98 #NBA season, one of the most significant items from #MichaelJordan’s career and final year with the Chicago Bulls is headed to auction this fall: Jordan’s iconic 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey,” Sotheby’s wrote in a Twitter post.

Jordan played the most minutes in any final game that season — 45 minutes — in Game 1 of the 1998 finals. He embarked on his last leg of the journey toward winning his sixth NBA championship in the legendary red Bulls jersey. The basketball star scored 33 points in that one game alone and forced it into overtime. This particular season stands out for the majority of fans; it was arguably his most cherished game. When the Michael Jordan era peaked, the player was able to solidify his position as one of the most well-known athletes in the world.

Sotheby’s has previously sold many Michael Jordan memorabilia. Some of the highest-priced items include a pair of Nike Air Ships sneakers signed by the NBA star which sold for $1.47 million last October 2021. Two other pairs of worn uniforms have been sold by the auction house. One is jersey shorts and a shirt worn by Jordan during his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls. It sold for $176,400 in December 2020. Another is a shirt the basketball star wore in 2001 when he returned to the game after running the Washington Wizards outside of the court. This shirt sold for $52,920.
