New baby items needed for community baby shower

rea residents are encouraged to donate new baby items to one of Detroit’s largest community baby showers this week.

On April 7, the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. Detroit Club will join forces with Henry Ford Hospital for its 25th annual community baby shower at the hospital.

Donors are encouraged to bring infant-sized car seats, portable cribs, receiving blankets, snowsuits, umbrella strollers, diapers, sleepers, baby wear and other items. The items do not have to be wrapped, and must be new and unused.

More than 2,400 babies are born at Henry Ford each year, but several are born premature, often to mothers who do not receive proper prenatal care, mothers with drug or alcohol addictions, or teenage mothers whose bodies cannot support a healthy pregnancy. Several new mothers are also under- or uninsured.

All are invited to donate items to the shower from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Henry Ford Hospital’s Buerki Auditorium, located on the main floor of the hospital.
