New networking group for plus-sized Detroit-area professionals launches in February

A new networking event geared toward plus-sized professionals in Metro Detroit launches in February with the goal of building community and support – as well as combating negative stereotypes.

Called The Plus Size Problem, the platform launches with a mixer in February that “strives to to bring aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals of every industry together while providing them with valuable resources and empowerment,” says founder Alexis Bragg, a Detroit native.

In a video preview, Bragg notes that being plus-sized is more than finding clothes that fit or eating in front of smaller friends, but also overcoming perceptions of laziness in the workplace and being afforded the same opportunities as those who aren’t plus-sized.

“Our mission is to connect curvy and body positive professionals, while educating and creating conversations that are impacting the curvy community,” Bragg says.

The Plus Sized Problem’s first mixer is hosted by Thy Real T’Kay and features a discussion with Amanda Cover and Amy Krizanek, co-owners of Bombshell Bridal in St. Clair Shores. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. on February 4 at The Craft Café, 14600 Mack Ave., Detroit.
