‘One Detroit’ on DPTV Offers a Weekly Take on Local News and Public Affairs

Detroit Public TV premiered a weekly news and public affairs program on Sept. 13. Anchored by DPTV managing editor Christy McDonald, plus Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Henderson and Detroit News' Nolan Finley, One Detroit aims for relationship building with the community for a "two-way engagement." One episode examined the public charge rule – which would allow the Department of Homeland Security to count legal immigrants' use of public assistance programs as strikes against them when applying for green cards or visas – and the effect it may have on Detroit's immigrant and non-immigrant communities.

"As the city does change, I think there are a number of stories that emerge from the nature of that change, from the dynamics that are created," Henderson says in a show promo, adding that One Detroit will give time and space to the people who do the work for a more substantive approach. "I think that is the story in Detroit right now."

One Detroit airs on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Visit dptv.org for more information.
