Shinola Names Smokey Robinson as its Latest ‘Great American’

Smokey Robinson

Few things scream Americana like Motown, so for Shinola, Smokey Robinson hits all the right notes as the eighth feature of its Great American Series. The Detroit brand recently debuted the Smokey Robinson Collection, a selection of limited-edition watches and products that honor the Motown legend.

The collection includes two Vinton timepieces with engravable case backs, a Runwell turntable crafted from heavy aluminum, stainless steel and American white oak, journals and a greeting card featuring some of Robinson’s iconic song titles – “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me.” Released alongside the collection is a special edition Runwell wall clock. The watches retail for $950 and are limited to just 1,000 pieces in each size, 32 mm and 38 mm.

“Shinola is honored to celebrate Smokey Robinson as our latest Great American. Born and raised in Detroit, his impact on music and artists around the world is legendary,” says Shannon Washburn, president and CEO of Shinola. “He embodies the attributes in line with the Great American Series we celebrate at Shinola.”

Robinson says, “After 60 beautiful years of creating and being inspired by music, I’m still living my dream. To partner with and be recognized by Shinola, a Detroit-based company, as their next Great American is an absolute honor. I worked closely with them to create a one-of-a-kind watch for both men and women, and I hope my fans wear them proudly.”
