The Roeper School, Local Athlete Make A Splash

he Roeper School recently wrapped up its Make-A-Splash program, part of the USA Swimming Foundation's national initiative to teach parents and their children the importance of water safety and swim instruction.

The foundation reports that  7 out of 10 African-American children and 6 out of 10 Hispanic children cannot swim. These children are are eight times more likely to be at-risk of drowning. 

Camden Murphy, a 13-year-old local swimmer and future Olympic hopeful, visited the school to demonstrate swimming techniques and inspire kids to embrace the activity as a sport and survival skill. In 2010, Murphy  dominated at state-wide competitions and swim meets, setting state records in the process.
