The Shinola Hotel is Open for Business

Shinola Hotel

After years of planning, construction and much ado, the Shinola Hotel opened on Jan. 2. A collab between Bedrock and the manufacturers familiar for their handcrafted watches, the 129-room boutique hotel is smack in the heart of downtown, offering elevated accommodations, dining and shopping with a Detroit demeanor. We’ve got Valentine’s Day date inspiration, and after hopping around the city with your favorite person, end the evening right. Have a cocktail at the bar, explore the common areas accented by mid-century modern furniture, check into one of the lodge’s uniquely designed rooms and … “relax.”

Sleep …

Choose between 10 different room options, from the Study Queen to the 1,100-square-foot Penthouse Suite. All layouts feature hardwood floors, Italian cotton sheets and a Shinola Bluetooth speaker. Some, like select Cass rooms, come equipped with a terrace overlooking the ever-evolving city.

Sip and Savor …

Pizza and pasta. Now that we’ve got your attention, let us direct it toward San Morello, the Italian eatery led by award-winning chef Andew Carmellini who crafts authentic dishes, wood-fires pizza and makes pasta from scratch. Open weeknights until midnight and weekends until 2 a.m., the hotel’s evening bar serves up seasonal cocktails and small bites. Soon you’ll be able to grab a beer at The Brakeman or a bucket of fried chicken from Penny Red’s.

Shop …

Walk Parker’s Alley behind the hotel – named for one of Detroit’s first black landowners Thomas Parker – and pop into fashion retailers Madewell or Good Neighbor, luxury perfume brand Le Labo and more, or appropriately, the new Shinola store.

Socialize …

Whether you’re planning a lavish event or a Tuesday morning meeting, they’ve got space for you. Bixby Hall with its chandeliers, columns and white tile ceiling may be just right for that big, fancy wedding, or perhaps the more understated Birdy Room and its private garden. The Foundry Room has far fewer bells and whistles but is no less sophisticated, perfect for corporate gatherings.
