Youth Organization Teen H.Y.P.E. Seeks Votes to Receive Grant

ocal youth development organization Teen HYPE asks the metro Detroit community to support its effort to attain a grant of up to $250,000 from the Chase Community Giving program by voting for the group through Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Founded in 2004, the organization serves not only as a place for young people to develop life and social skills, but to also acquire access to resources, such as sex and health education, says executive director Ambra Redrick.

“In our city, we have extremely high rates of teen pregnancy and STDs for young people and a lot of the places providing access to sex education have closed,” she says. “Young people need a place to go where it’s safe and they can get it from here.”

With a grant, Redrick says the program would be able to expand its emerging adult program, help support higher education of students and cover day-to-day expenses.

The online voting process is “a very easy way to help,” she says. “We’re not asking for money, just their vote. It only takes a couple of clicks to really impact an organization that helps the young people of Detroit.”

To vote, visit The Chase Community Giving app on Facebook and search for Teen HYPE. Voting ends Wednesday, Sept. 19.
