Brix Wine & Charcuterie swirls into Detroit’s West Village

est Village’s newest addition is the culmination of a 15-year dream. With a little help from a 2016 Motor City Match grant, owner Mikiah Westbrooks opened Brix Wine & Charcuterie in a former bank on Kercheval, with the goal of offering wine to the neighborhood without pretension.

“Our idea is to make (wine) more approachable so that when you come here, if you want to be educated, you can. But if you want to just come in here and have a great glass of wine, you can have that too,” Westbrooks says.

The shop can seat up to 40 people and offers about 25-35 wines on its menu, in addition to a selection of smoked meats and cheeses.

For a more private experience, patrons can book the table in the old bank vault and enjoy charcuterie prepared fresh at the table and paired with wine.

Regular wine tastings and wine education events are also available.


Brix is open 4 p.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Saturday with plans to expand hours later in the fall.

Mignanego Barbera d’Asti. Made from one of the most popular grapes in Italy, this easy drinking wine has a dry finish with lots of fruit.

Bodega Barberis Familia Barberis Malbec. This Argentinian wine uses Malbec grapes to generate a dry wine with soft tannins and grapefruit.

Valpolicella Ripasso. Referred to as big red Italian wine, its Ripasso grapes are dried in the sun before being smothered in original Valpolicella.

Fradei Pino Grigio. Hailing from the Pavia province in Italy, this crisp, refreshing wine has a soft palate and is made from 100 percent pinot grigio.
