Don’t miss the music at these metro Detroit outdoor music venues

lose your eyes and picture this: You and your friends moving your hips, snapping your fingers and clapping your hands. The sun melts into the horizon as you listen, sing, hum and vibe to the songs that feed your soul. The stars shine bright as your hands lift in unison with those around you as you sway to the sounds of the night.

It’s the perfect summer concert. And now that the sun is (hopefully) here to stay, it’s time to enjoy the summer heat.

Metro Detroit has numerous outdoor venues that host some of your favorite artists throughout the summer. Chene Park Amphitheatre gets down in Wayne County. Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill shakes a tail feather in Macomb County. And Meadow Brook Music Festival raises the roof in Oakland County.

Chene Park Amphitheatre

Located in the heart of Detroit, Chene Park’s colorful and eager crowds fill the 5,000 seats and 1,000 lawn spots throughout the summer months. The worldwide concert publication Pollstar recognized Chene Park as one of the top 100 concert venues in the world. June is jam-packed at Chene Park, welcoming artists Najee on June 14 and Monica and Ashanti on June 23.

Meadow Brook Amphitheatre

Stationed in Rochester on the campus of Oakland University, this amphitheater has come a long way from its original purpose. During the 1960s the venue was the summer home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Since then, Meadow Brook has opened its doors to family events and R&B, contemporary and rock concerts. This summer John Legend will serenade fans on June 16.

Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill

This Sterling Heights venue was built to fit 7,200 lively music lovers. In 2012, Luna Entertainment of Novi invested over $2 million in venue improvements. They included an update in technology, cosmetic appearance, sound system and lighting. Freedom Hill is starting off summer strong with shows that feature multiple artists, like the Second Annual Jazz Spectacular on June 18, Meek Mil and Yo Gotti on July 7, Mary J. Blige on August 7 and Nas and Lauryn Hill on September 8.
