Judge Greg Mathis gets in the Turkey Day spirit

Detroit native Judge Greg Mathis and the Mathis Community Center teams up with the Detroit Chapter of the NFL Alumni today for the group’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Mathis Community Center in Detroit.

Both Mathis and the NFL Detroit Chapter Alumni understand that many of the families who visit and attend the centers programs could use help with the costliness of the Thanksgiving dinner.

“Giving back to the community is one main of the pillars of the NFL Alumni Organization,” Ron Rice, president of the NFL Alumni Detroit Chapter, says. “Partnering with Judge Mathis and the Mathis Community Center is one of the many ways we ensure we are a staple in helping to empower the city in which we live and work.”

He adds, “seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing this might be the only family dinner some of these families may have, makes our work worth it.”

The Mathis Community Center strives to encourage learning and works to make honorable activities a way of life for Detroiters. The goal of the center is to “be a place where lives are changed; for the better.” The center is host to a variety of events and offers mentor, tutoring, and training programs.
