Throughout her life, Rhonda A. Glover has been committed to serving youth. It’s a calling that began at a very young age when she helped care for her mother and siblings, then continued as a single mother raising three children.

Determined to create a better life for herself and her family, Rhonda earned Associate of Applied Science degree in General Business from Schoolcraft College. That education, plus her own hard work and dedication, led Rhonda to her current role as Executive Director for the National Association of Black Suppliers Scholarship Fund.

The National Association of Black Automotive Suppliers membership created the NABS Scholarship Fund in 1987. It’s an IRS 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to provide scholarship assistance and educational opportunities to high-achieving African American youth.

Under Rhonda’s leadership, the Scholarship Fund has provided over $2.2 million in scholarships. That’s an impressive, impactful amount, but that’s just a part of this important story.

ā€œHere at NABS Scholarship Fund, we invest in high-achieving and financially vulnerable graduating minority high school students throughout Southeastern Michigan,ā€ Rhonda said. ā€œWe provide mentoring and counseling to maximize their academic and career success. We promote relationships between our graduate scholars and current scholars to nurture effective transfer of knowledge, insights, and success skills, through seminars, retreats and networking.

ā€œMost of all, we develop the next generation of community leaders by inviting our scholars and graduates to network and work with industry leaders and pacesetters, at our public events, board functions, industry functions and through Board and Committee participation. Further, we connect our NABS Scholarship Fund Scholars with our stakeholders and jobs through internships, recruiting and networking.ā€

More than 200 students have been positively affected by the NABS Scholarship Fund.

ā€œRecognizing that an investment in our youth’s education is an investment in our economy and our future, the NABS Scholarship Fund board has worked diligently to help young scholars and their families afford the expense of a college education at many of America’s premier institutions of higher learning,ā€ Rhonda said.

You can be assured that Rhonda and the NABS Scholarship Find will continue to work hard to provide these opportunities that have such a positive effect on our communities. For more information about the NABS Scholarship Fund, please visit www.nabssf.org.
