Southfield Native Andrea Jones Plans Nothing Bundt Cakes Location in Sterling Heights

It's often said to expect the unexpected. Andrea Jones' journey took her from the campus of Michigan State University (with a bachelor's degree in marketing) to corporate America (Ford Motor Company), and more recently, landed her in the sweet world of Bundt cakes. Nothing Bundt Cakes, a Las Vegas-based franchise, has seen more than 260 bakeries open across America. Until last November, Michigan didn't even have one. That is, until Jones' cousin, Kelly Rankin, opened a location in Novi. Jones helped her with some of the logistics involved in business management. Another African-American woman, Jasmine Jones (no relation), opened her store earlier this year in Troy, inspired by Rankins' example.

Meanwhile, Jones' Sterling Heights store is scheduled to open by year's end. What really excites Jones about this venture is helping others. "I'm so excited to hand-pick the people that are going to work for me … creating opportunities for other people," Jones says. Nothing Bundt Cakes flavors include Classic Vanilla, Pecan Praline, Confetti and other cool creations. All this is great, but Jones loves more than the taste – it's the overall feel of the franchise along with the company's values that impress her most. "It has a very family-oriented feeling to it," says the Southfield native. "When you come into the lobby of the bakery, it's very warm and inviting. They want to be in every celebratory moment you have – that really spoke to me. Everyone's always happy here."
